The leader in steel piling foundations, DFI started in the piling business over thirty years ago with steel driven piling. We have extensive experience with this type of piling, driving over 1.2 million steel pipe piles to-date. This equates to 12 million metres (7456 miles) of piles and 635,000 tonnes (almost 625,000 tons) of steel.
Resources
Driven pipe piles are open ended with no flight on the shaft and depend on skin friction and/or end bearing capacity to exceed the structural loads. These piles are installed either using a hammer that strikes the top of the pile, driving it to required depth, or by vibratory methods.

Advantages:
- Tend to be more economical (no helixes or fabrication)
- Faster installation than helical piles
- Less soil displacement vs. helical piles
- Offer a higher degree of load bearing when compared to other pile types
- More suited for stiffer soils including clay, cobble, sandstone, etcetera
- Can be used near other driven piles, sharing loads more equally
