Job Profile
The Estimator at DFI Piling Inc. is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for helical piling projects across Western Canada. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with strong analytical and technical skills who can assess project requirements, collaborate with internal teams, and deliver estimates that align with client expectations and company goals. The Estimator will work closely with project managers, sales, and technical teams to ensure accurate pricing and successful project outcomes.

Job Duties
- Analyze project plans, specifications, and technical documents to determine project scope and requirements.
- Review design options and offer solutions based on cost, engineering quality, and materials.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates, including material, labour, equipment, subcontractors/vendors, and overhead.
- Conduct quantity takeoffs and input into DFI estimating software (PACT).
- Prepare and submit comprehensive bid proposals, ensuring alignment with client needs and project timelines.
- Collaborate with sales and project management teams to refine estimates and align with overall strategy.
- Solicit and analyze quotes from suppliers and subcontractors for materials and services.
- Build and maintain relationships with vendors to secure competitive pricing and ensure timely delivery.
- Stay informed about market trends, material costs, and labour rates in the Canadian construction industry.
- Identify and assess risks and develop contingencies and proactive solutions to address project challenges.
- Negotiate contracts with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors as needed
- Work closely with project managers to transition estimates into project budgets and execution plans.
- Support technical sales and business development efforts by providing accurate and timely pricing information.
- All other assigned duties.
Qualifications
- Preferably 3-5 years of experience in construction estimating, in deep foundations or geotechnical construction.
- CET Certification is an asset.
- Experience in Project Management or Construction Management is an asset.
- Proficient in Excel, Bluebeam, Word, and Estimating Software.
- Ability to read and interpret building specifications, blueprints and as-builts.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills for preparing material and labour estimates and interpreting job cost reports.
- Attention to detail in all aspects of estimating, including material takeoffs, labour calculations, and risk assessment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience writing reports
- Must take a collaborative approach to dealing with customers and fellow employees.
- Ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously and meet tight deadlines without compromising accuracy.
- Ability to travel to sites as needed.
- Strong workplace safety practices and training.
- Strong understanding of construction methodologies, deep foundations, and piling techniques.
